Winter Plumbing Tips to Protect Your Pipes
Plumbing issues are a part of every homeowner's experience, but not every problem needs a costly professional fix. From clogged drains to running toilets, many common plumbing problems can be handled with a few tools and basic know-how
Leaky Faucets
A worn washer or cartridge usually causes drips. Turn off the water, disassemble the faucet, and replace the damaged part.
Clogged Drains
Hair, soap, and grease blockages are common. Use a plunger, drain snake, or natural solution like baking soda and vinegar to clear it.
Running Toilet
A faulty flapper or chain can cause constant running. Check the tank and replace worn parts.
Low Water Pressure
Mineral buildup in aerators or showerheads can reduce flow. Soak them in vinegar or replace if necessary.
Leaky Pipes
Temporary fixes include epoxy putty or pipe clamps, but replacing the damaged section is often the permanent solution.
Water Heater Issues
Check the thermostat or pilot light if there’s no hot water. Sediment buildup may require flushing the tank.
Jammed Garbage Disposal
Press the reset button or insert an Allen wrench into the bottom socket to clear jams.
Slow Tub Drain
Hair traps and soap residue block flow. Remove the stopper and use a drain stick or snake to pull out debris.
Toilet Won’t Flush Properly
Adjust water level, flapper, or chain to restore proper flushing.
Sewer Odors
Dry traps or cracked seals can release odors. Pour water into unused drains and inspect wax seals around toilets.
